    Etsy Treasuries

I made a couple of Treasuries on Etsy today I thought you'd enjoy.

    Green and Gold

This Green and Gold was created with the holidays in mind.  Some are holiday themed, some are just great gift ideas.

This 'One of a Kind' Treasury was made to break away from the holidays a little bit.  In all of my exploring on Etsy, I've come across so many One of a Kind items that really stand out to me.  I cannot possibly include them in one treasury.  So here are a few of my current favorites.

If you sell on Etsy, you might also be interested in joining the Treasury Lovers Unofficial Team on Facebook.  It's a really wonderful group of sellers who help promote each other and have contests and challenges each week.  The group is growing quickly with new members signing up everyday and some of these treasuries are actually making it on Etsy Front Page.

    I'm Back!!!

I know I’ve been missing from the blog world for quite a few months. This summer/fall was a busy one! It was difficult juggling 2 companies, 3 kids and all of the summer/fall activities that come along with it. So, I decided, I’d put the blog on a bit of a hiatus.

So, the things I’ve been up to since June…My twins turned 2 in July. We threw them a party and had everyone over. The party was another big hit, especially with the bounce house we had rented for the weekend. And with the big 2, comes toddler beds and potty training. Both of which we are still struggling with. They aren’t doing TOO bad with the toddler beds. They still sleep through the night, it’s just getting them to stay in bed when we put them there. Some nights can become an hour battle. Potty training…*sigh*….we’ve started and given up a few times. I think we’re making progress with my daughter most of the time. My son is very clear on his opinion on potty training. I won’t even start to work/fight with him until I have my daughter trained….maybe with any luck, she will set some sort of example for him. As far as the terrible twos, I guess I’m used to it. That starts around 18 months or so these days and even earlier with an older child. Good Times!

I enrolled my oldest son in school. This was so much harder on me than it was for him. He took to school so great and, a few months into it, he still loves it. He’s making friends and learning things at such a phenomenal pace. I am so proud of him. He’s a preschooler and already starting to sound out, read and spell words. I thought I had a little bit of time left to write or spell out those keywords you don’t ever want your kids to hear in conversation…i.e. “After dinner, did you want to order I-C-E-C-R-E-A-M?” Of course, those are the words he’s learned to spell first. So, he’s the first voice to excitedly yelp “YeS”. He also had his first fundraiser. He was helping to raise money for his school to pay for school supplies. We made a few stops, including my dad’s work where he kicked butt in sales. He did so awesome, he won top seller at his school and we will be packing our family up and taking them to Kalahari Water Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. I know the kid is determined to be a firefighter, but if that doesn’t pan out, he just might have a little bit of sales in blood.

Then, our big BIG surprise of the summer….we’re expecting our fourth child. I definitely didn’t see this one coming. Our newest bundle of joy will be here in April of 2011. We haven’t found out if it’s a boy or a girl yet (a few more weeks for the ultrasound) but we (including the kids) are excited for the new addition. I’m 17 weeks now and so happy to finally be past the dreaded first trimester. Out of all three of the pregnancies, this one was the worst first trimester I’ve ever had. And of course, it’s impossible to just curl up and sleep those three months away when I have to chase the other three kids around. This was one of those times we put a halt to potty training the twins. Oh, and to cure everyone’s curiosity, there is only ONE baby this time.

So, since I’m back, I’m planning to update the blog regularly and get going with those artist interviews again. My blogging habits will end up somewhere on my New Years Resolutions list for 2011.

In the mean time, feel free to catch me on Twitter and Facebook too!

    Monday Mayhem

Happy Monday (in my Eeyore tone of voice).  Another weekend that flew right by us.  We made the best of it at least, considering the hellacious storms we had.  Normally, I'm all for a good storm!  I like the thunder and the lighting, the whole thing…..well, except for tornados.  We didn't get any touch downs in our immediate area from what I heard.  But it rained pretty good every day this weekend.

Saturday, my husband went to our other property to catch up on some farming.  I know, can you believe it, we're still trying to put seeds in the ground?!?!  He just finished up on the garden here at the house too.  Anyway, I kind of lounged around and I did get to go out and do a little browsing.

Yesterday, we finally took our boat out for the first time this season.  Hubs has been there with my son but they just cleaned it up.  We have it docked on the Detroit River for the summer.  We're used to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron up by Mackinac Island and Cheboygan.  When you leave the harbor and reach the lake, you just take off, no worries of depth.  Well, Detroit River….way different!  We were slowly putting around 15-20 feet depth and than all of a sudden 2-4 feet.  So, Hubs wants another toy for the boat - a chart plotter.  That way when we find ourselves in 2 feet of water, we're not nervous of which way to go to get out of it.  So, we didn't stay out too long but, we did manage to catch a little of the Red Bull Air Races.  We're were a little further down but some of the planes came our way.  We're looking forward to the Hydroplaning races next month.  The start/finish line is right at our Marina.  And I…um…won't forget my camera this time.

^^^Not bad taken from my blackberry, I suppose^^^

    THIS WEEK
Don't forget, the giveaway is still going on for PictureIt Creation's 25 oz. Beer Mug at Faerie Moon Creations where she featured myself and another artist, Stil Novo.  It really is a great read for some great Father's Day Gifts.  Entry information is spelled out in the post as well.

    Faerie Moon Creations

The Father's Day Sale ends on the 10th.  There is an extra 15% off for all gifts under the Father's Day sections of my shops.  If its not automatically applied, feel free to use he coupon code: DAD2010 to apply the discount.

I am working on updating my website (http://www.pictureitcreations.com).  I use Yahoo! Sitebuilder for making my site - and it's more than a little pain in the rear end. I was trying to work on the next big section of my shop (to be revealed at a later date) and the software took a poop on me.  So, I uninstalled and reinstalled the updated version and re-imported my site from the WWW.  Well, only pieces of it came back to me and I had to manually put everything else back together.  Anyway, unfortunately, there may be some broken or missing links.  If you run across any, please let me know.

New Look! New attitude! New Blog!

Well, the blog got a little bit of pampering yesterday.  I changed everything about it except for the URL.  I even changed the name.  I changed the colors and made a new template from scratch.  Then, I added the buttons and titles to match the theme.  I just didn't think that the old style had enough color.  And although I liked the wide format from before, it didn't allow for a colorful background.  It's my first blog template EVER so, I hope you like it.

I even changed the name and made the blog more of a personal feel instead of a company feel, which is what it was supposed to be in the first place.  This way, I think it opens it up to broaden the list of topics as well, relating to gift giving and event planning.  I'll be keeping up with the Spotlight Artists since those will also be for gifts and I will be featuring artists regularly.  So, if you are interested in being a part of that, the link has changed.   It's called "Artist Interview".  But I'll also be writing about DIY gift ideas to save time and money and to get the kids involved.  And I hope to share some of my photography tips as well - since photos do make the best gifts.

Now, I'd like to get going with some regularly scheduled articles.  I know there are the popular Wordless Wednesdays and Follow Fridays.  What better way to find out which scheduled articles are favorites than to ask my readers?  I'm taking ideas and suggestions.

I hope everyone has a Happy and SAFE Memorial Day weekend.  And if you get a chance, I am still hosting the giveaway for the Set of Four 23 oz Pilsner Glasses in honor of Dads.  This ends today and I'll pick the winner tomorrow with the help of Random.org.

    Car Decals

I have been offering vinyl decals for businesses, cars and homes for a few months.  My husband and I actually started another company strictly for signage.  But with the wedding orders rolling in, I haven't been able to set things up entirely for their website, facebook, blog, etc.  But the ideas for decals are always coming to me. Here are two ideas I actually put together today so everyone else can visualize too.

What do you think?  Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I know the one isn't personalized like what I normally do.  But it could say anything "inside" really. And I figured with the awareness ribbon, I could make it any color awareness ribbon needed.

By the way, if you're interested in becoming a fan of the new signage company, here's the link.  I'll be posting a few other jobs I've done recently up there as well.

CLOSED Giveaway: Set of Four Custom Engraved 23 oz. Pilsner Glasses

I have three wedding orders for Pilsner glasses I need to engrave and get out this weekend.  My luck lately, is that I receive a large order, like these 23 oz. Pilsner glasses.  I ordered the glasses from my vendor plus a little extra to give room for error and have some left over for future orders.  The day they arrive, I get two more smaller orders of Pilsner glasses - not enough to make ordering them worth it when you add in shipping.  So, I check pricing online and drag my 3 kids to these stores to scout out the best price plus the store that has enough in stock.  Not only did I find more than plenty in stock at the first stop, but they were much cheaper and no shipping.  So, I bought more than needed!

I'm rubbing off some of my good luck to one lucky person.  I'm giving away a set of 4 custom engraved 23 oz. Pilsner Glasses absolutely free (retails for $56.99), US Shipping included.  These things are the most popular groomsmen gifts this wedding season.  But they are also great for housewarming gifts and birthday gifts.  Don't forget Dad's big day is coming up.  Father's Day is June 20th!

These glasses are fully customizable.  I can engrave text, clipart and/or your favorite logos on these glasses.  I will gladly prepare proofs for you as well and even test engraves if necessary.  You can view our fonts list at http://www.pictureitcreations.com/laserfonts to get started on designing your winning glasses. :)

Enter now and tell all of your friends, followers and fans!  Contest ends Sunday, May 30th.  I'll use Random.org on Monday, May 31st to pick a winner.  Winner will have 48 hours to respond to my email or another random commenter will be chosen.

You can find these pilsners at any of my shops listed here:

A week to plan a 4 Year Old Birthday Party...

My son will be 4 next week.  Its so hard to picture him as a "kid" since to me, he is still my baby.  He's at the age where he's now choosing his birthday theme instead of relying on me to choose from Mickey Mouse or Handy Manny.

So, this year, he went with the Monster Jam Theme.  He LOVES Monster Jam, more specifically, Grave Digger.  But he is starting to get into Blue Thunder and Monster Mutt, but Grave Digger will always be a favorite.  So, with that in mind, I leisurely make a trip to the party store.  After all, they would have Monster Jam theme, right?  WRONG!  Every store I've called, most don't even have a balloon.  A week left until his birthday party and not a monster truck napkin or plate to be found!

I decide to order a Monster Truck moonwalk for the backyard.  I'm so excited about it and even Conner is really excited about it.  I call to order, that one is the most popular and it's booked for weeks in advance. :(  So, we settled on the Space Ship moonwalk....maybe he won't notice???

I was going to make Monster Jam temporary tattoos with the tattoo paper at Michaels, but they were out.  There is still time. I'm going to try to find these babies again tomorrow.

I quickly order a Grave Digger pinata online.  This will be exciting for him since he's never seen one. Thankfully, it arrived on time too! :)  And it looks cool!

So, I'm creative, I can figure something out....I have to.  I have a Grave Digger pinata with a Spaceship Moonwalk. Then, it hits me!  I don't do this often but I can make rubber stamps.  So, I take an image of the famous Grave Digger and turn him into rubber!  And Voila!  Grave Digger is on my coordinating purple and green napkins (colors of Grave Digger).  I was going to make goodie bags with the same stamp, but at the last second I found a store with limited Monster Jam party supplies.

So, here are the final napkins!  I'm quite proud of them, being a last minute idea that happened to work.  And not only that, my husband, who usually doesn't have much to say about anything called them "Sweet!" :D  When I get a second to sit down, most likely after the party this weekend, I will be listing these custom rubber stamps for people to use for weddings, birthdays and baby showers.  No need to mapquest all of the party supply stores in the tri-state area looking for enough coordinated supplies for one party!  Get a custom stamp and your napkins, cups, etc. and P-A-R-T-Y!

I should note that this isn't with any ordinary inks pads for the napkins.  The brand "StazOn" inkpad is the way to go. I'm not sure if there is another brand of the same ink but, StazOn is known to not bleed and make a gross looking image over time and it will not make a mess on your hands and face when you use the napkin. I've tested with 3 different ink pad brands and StazOn really works.

And just to throw this in...I did make his invites also...according to theme!  A Monster Jam All Access Pass ticket for our of our guests!  I still have shopping to do but I will be putting toy Monster Trucks as his cake toppers too.

Happy 4th Birthday Oosah! I wub you!

    Etsy, Artfire & Zibbet...Oh My!

There is always a debate in any community you're a part of.  For photographers, it's Canon vs. Nikon.  Social Networks, it's Facebook vs. Myspace.  etc etc. For the handmade community, there is a big talk about which is better to sell on, which brings in more traffic, with Etsy, Artfire and Zibbet.

I remember signing up with Etsy about a year ago.  My mom seen it mentioned on Good Morning America and called me right away to tell me.  I missed the report on it but I was on the internet looking it up within minutes.  At the time, I was only selling on my website and on eBay.  I was very disgusted with eBay at the time because of their pricing schedules and their new policies.  So, the thought of paying a flat $.20 per listing and a minimal final value fee was like a breath of fresh air to me.  I started off slow, just as I did when I started with eBay, start with a couple listings to see if I get any bites.  Then add a few more and a few more.  I was afraid of putting too much money into it and not get anything out of it.  So, that way, obviously took me a while to get started.  But as I started adding more, I noticed I got more contacts through Etsy than I did on eBay and eventually the sales weren't even close.  I'm so happy to say I've gotten rid of eBay as of a couple months ago.  I'll probably go back around Christmas time and snag some sales for the holidays too.

I'm not exactly sure how I heard about Zibbet but it didn't take me long to sign up for $7/mo and start accumulating referrals to get closer to my free premium account for life.  In efforts to find my referrals for Zibbet, someone mentioned Artfire to me.  Again, I found someone with a coupon code for a discounted price at Artfire and within days, I had a premium account.  I'm a bit of impulse buyer you can say but, I don't feel bad since the fees for my three accounts don't come close to the monthly fees I was paying with eBay alone.

I want to know what you think.  Do you prefer Etsy, Artfire, Zibbet or something else?  Why?  What are your favorites of either one of them?

    Spotlight Artist Interview

One of the most important things I've found as an artist is meeting new people and other artists, forming friendships (and not just business relationships), learning and gaining inspiration and insight from each other. I'm a part of a number of networking groups either through facebook, twitter or forums through my shops. And I couldn't have met a better group of people. They are so quick to help when they can. They help promote your work. They are incredibly talented and their work amazes me! This is one way for me to give back and say Thank You for everything they have done for me.

I am adding a new article to my blog. I will be featuring artists and their shops on my blog. You'll see pictures, information, ways to buy and follow them.

To get started as a featured artist, please fill out the initial interview form below. I will contact you if I need or would like more information regarding your as an artist or your work. And I will also notify you when it's your time in the spotlight.

    Gift Giving Etiquette & Tips

A perfect gift should show that you invested a little time and energy and that you actually cared about the feelings of the recipient. If you go the extra mile, it’s more likely that the recipient will love the gift.

Sit down and really think about the recipient. What do you have in common? Once you figure this out, you can easily zone in on an area that would be safe shopping ground.

Gift giving strengthens bonds, both at home and at the workplace. Often, bosses set up a system where gifts are given to exemplary employees. During the holidays, many companies exchange gifts or conduct Secret Santa programs. Not only do these types of activities break up the monotony of the daily grind, but they also serve keep goodwill and cheer flowing throughout the office during a hectic time.

If you want to give a gift that’ll be remembered all year long, you need to put your imagination to work. Listen to what the recipient talks about, especially if they say they need something. Occasionally, you’ll come across a recipient who seems to have everything. That’s when you can let your imagination run wild. Your goal in this case is to find something that will surprise and delight. Purchase a gift that they may not have said they wanted but which reflects their personality. You’ll show them that you always pay attention to and remember what they have to say.

    THE BELATED GIFT
Uh, oh! You forgot?!?! Now, you need to find a gift that not only shows you care, but also rewards with you with forgiveness. Personalized belated birthday gifts are always memorable, and are extra-thoughtful. Almost anything can be personalized these days with a name or initials, or even a heartfelt message. Inside jokes get big points with the recipient, too.

Apology Addition~ This is an extra gift that you get to go along with the gift you were going to get the birthday boy or girl anyway. This extra gift is the “apology gift,” and it can be some small, sweet gesture that says you are sorry for being late. Apology gifts can be flowers (one or a significant number), candy (candy bouquets are cute) or you can get extra points with homemade cookies.

Clumsy but Cute~ Write a poem or song, even if you are rewriting the lyrics to any song to say sorry you’re late, but you still think he’s great. Use any song, from “Happy Birthday” to his or her favorite pop song, or even a kid’s song like “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.” It’s the sweetness of the performance that will earn you points. Then follow up the performance with the gift you were planning on giving in the first place.

Traditional~ Flowers, balloons, candy and belated birthday cards are more standard belated gifts. You’ll get extra points if you add a creative twist, though. What about putting these gifts in a basket with some paper tissue flowers? Or wrapping the balloon string around a poster or t-shirt?

Make-Up Outing~ Offer to make it up to him or her with tickets to a movie, sporting event, theater or reservations for dinner tucked inside a belated birthday wishes card. This makes the message that you’re sorry for being late much nicer and gives you both something to look forward to. Choose one of these, and all will be forgiven.

    THE HOSTESS GIFT
Knowing hostess gift giving etiquette can help you bring an appropriate present the next time you are invited to a dinner, party or open house. You have plenty of choices, and whimsical and creative gifts are welcome.

Making The Unimaginative Creative~ Many times, guests bring a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates. These are unimaginative in themselves, but you can make them more special with a little creativity. Bring the bottle of wine in a special sleeve made to keep wine chilled, or attach a fancy bottle opener with a ribbon. Instead of chocolates, bring an assortment of gourmet cookies in a fancy bowl or tray. Then, the hostess can keep something to enjoy after the food or drink is consumed.

Homey Gifts~ Gifts for hostesses are similar to housewarming gifts. Think about gadgets for the kitchen. These could include cooking ingredients or handy utensils. For instance, a big bottle of flavored oil or vinegar from a gourmet cooking store, or a selection of unusual spices in a little basket would be appreciated by a good cook. Fancy serving utensils are also great hostess gifts. For example, a beautiful trivet or salad tongs are always useful.

Anything that makes a dinner party more special is also a great hostess gift. How about a set of fancy coasters, cute wineglass rings, napkin holders or a mixed drink recipe book? Scented, shaped or fancy candles or candlesticks are also lovely gifts for a hostess. Home-enhancing gifts like a small set of hand towels or gourmet soaps are also appreciated and thoughtful. If you are bringing flowers, bring them in a vase. Then, the hostess won’t be distracted by looking for a vase, and she can use the vase later.

    Tips To Remember
~ Hostess thank you gifts don’t have to be expensive or big. You are just making a token thank you gesture for the time and effort made by the hostess to include you. The most important part is to be gracious and make sure the hostess feels appreciated.

    GIFTS OF SYMPATHY
Following proper sympathy gift etiquette is important after a friend or relative has lost a loved one. However, it can be hard to find a gift that accurately expresses your feelings during a tough time. Are sympathy flowers enough? Are sympathy plants appropriate? These guidelines about sympathy gift etiquette can help you choose a thoughtful gift that will be appreciated.

    Religious Traditions
~ Some religions do not find flowers appropriate as a sympathy gift. Flowers die, and then the mourner has to throw them out, which can be emotionally painful. Instead, a plant might be better because it is alive and will continue on with gentle care. An especially nice idea is to get a plant that can be planted in the yard and thrive for years to come. Then you’ve sent them a reminder of life, rather than loss. Also, some people request a donation to a charitable cause in lieu of flowers. Make sure you find out if the family has expressed wishes along these lines.

Keepsake Gifts~ If you have no guidelines regarding a sympathy gift, you could give a gift of a picture frame or picture album that could hold photo memories of the loved one who passed. Another idea in this category is a keepsake box for the friend or family to put in mementos of the person’s life. Some companies will make a necklace out of a picture or other keepsake, and that might be a consideration for a gift if you were close to the person suffering the loss.

Getting Through This Time~ Sympathy gifts to help the loved ones get through this grieving period would include a meaningful book or some relaxing music. You could also give tea or other cozy and comforting items. This shows you care about those who are grieving and wish to support them.

    My First Treasury on Etsy

Ok, I know it took me long enough to do my first treasury. I browsed through them for the longest time and coming up with ideas for them. But, never made the effort. Then, when I found inspiration for a good one and got all of my listing numbers together, I had to wait for the number of treasuries to drop below 333 :(. Well, anyway, it was brought to my attention that I can list treasuries with no limits on Treasury East on Etsy. So, today was the big day.

This is a collection of things I'd like to add my current over flowing, drive-my-husband-nuts collection of favorite things. :) I've been an Elvis fan since, well, I can't remember actually becoming a fan if that tells you how old I was. Although I wasn't even thought of when he was rocking and rolling, I still love all things Elvis.

So, without further ado, Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis Presley on Etsy.

Thank you!  Thank you very much!
